Carnival of Digital Cameras and Photography is a weekly round-up of all the latest news, trends, digital camera reviews, top blogs, photography tips and professional advice.
New cameras galore! - We saw several new digital camera announcements this week, including those by Kodak (Dave Etchells of The Imaging Resource was there!), Casio, and (ooh! aah!) Leaf (although technically not a digital camera, it's still worth mentioning).
Cool software - Makayama Interactive introduced Digital Camera Media Studio 1.0 this week, according to Cameratown. Why is this cool? It lets you play back DVD movies and other recorded video on your Casio or Sony digital camera! You can also connect the camera to a television and watch it that way. Not bad, for only 32 bucks...
Mamiya exits stage left - It's another culling of the digital camera manufacturer herd. Mamiya announced this week they are selling their Optical Equipment Division to Cosmo Digital Imaging Company, Ltd. The new company intends to (in their words) "further advance in the digital direction of professional photographic imaging technology." The takeover will occur on September 1st, 2006, according to Digital Camera Websites.
Follow the money - DigitalCameraInfo reports on the recent quarterly reports from Canon, Fuji, and Sony. It seems Canon and Sony are raking it in nicely, but Fuji is struggling a bit. The company is narrowing losses, though, and plans to invest more money into research and development.
