Breeze Systems has announced version 1.5 of their PSRemote software, which now can control many Canon PowerShot models through a notebook computer. The software allows users to improve exposure control by autobracketing a series of up to 15 images, and can vary shutter speed or aperture. Users can see high-res previews on the PC within seconds, display a live viewfinder, and store images directly to the PC's hard drive.
There is a free trial for this Windows-only software, and it sells for $49. This release is a free upgrade for current users.

Breeze Systems PSRemote 1.5 supports Canon PowerShot A620, S80, S2 IS and S3 IS cameras and improves exposure control
16th March, 2006: Breeze Systems today announced PSRemote 1.5. Photographers can now use Breeze Systems' highly regarded software to control the Canon PowerShot A620, S80, S2 IS and S3 IS cameras as well as many other PowerShot models.
Improve exposure control in tricky lighting conditions with PSRemote's unique ability to auto bracket a sequence of up to 15 images with a Canon PowerShot camera. PSRemote 1.5 allows auto bracketing by varying the shutter speed or the aperture and is ideal for capturing high dynamic range images (HDR).

This photo of Winchester Cathedral was taken late at night. It illustrates how a series of images taken using the auto bracketing feature in PSRemote can result a blended exposure with far more detail than can be obtained from a single exposure. The single exposure loses detail in the shadow areas such as in the tree on the right of the picture. The single exposure also loses detail in the highlight areas such as in the wall on the right, the street lamps and in some of the arches in the cathedral. By blending the auto bracketed shots in an image editor it is possible to retain detail in the both the shadows and the highlights.
