SnapJot lets groups pool media, create albums

New SnapJot Community Scrapbooking Service Lets Groups and Families Pool Digital Media, Share Memories and Make Group Albums, DVDs

Groups now have a community scrapbooking service designed just for them. SnapJot (www.snapjot.com) is a free, secure web service where groups can easily pool their digital pictures, video clips and commentary to make a collaborative album or DVD around their shared experiences.

Co-founder and CEO Steve Douty got the inspiration for SnapJot when he became frustrated with how difficult it was to gather photos from the parents of his son's little league team. "Everybody uses a different method for sharing photos," says Douty. "Instead of individuals broadcasting their photos through photo printing services or email, I wanted to create a single, private place for groups to collect full-resolution photos, video clips and commentary about their important experiences."

SnapJot offers free, private online Websites called "stories" that chronicle the events of a particular experience. Invitations to join a SnapJot story are sent by email. Members can then view the story, upload media (including photos, video clips, documents and graphics) and add commentary.

A story is composed of a series of rich media Web pages called "Jots," which are arranged chronologically. Creating a Jot is as easy as composing an HTML email message. Media can be uploaded using the SnapJot web service, or emailed directly to a Jot from a computer or camera phone.

SnapJot stories can be viewed as online slideshows, turned into DVDs, or transformed into hardbound photo books. Favorite snapshots can decorate mugs, mousepads, t-shirts, and other gift products.

Lee Kempf, a longtime scrapbooker, says, "I find SnapJot simple and fun to use. I can work with all my media in one place now, so it really feels like scrapbooking, only it's online."

SnapJot offers quick-start templates for themes like vacations/travel, classrooms, youth sports, weddings, baby books, holidays, family events and personal journals. Users can also design their own stories. Custom SnapJot services for travel companies and schools are in the works.
