"The Mac Skeptic" at PC World Magazine has a review of Apple Aperture. Rebecca Freed, who is apparently "special to PC World," seems to like the program, although she admits she's only a "point-and-shoot photographer with rudimentary graphic-design training." She says she noticed no read slowdowns on her 1.5-GHz G4 PowrBook with 1 Gb of RAM.
In all, the reviewer states that although Aperture is no "Photoshop Killer," it seems to be meant as more of an "executive-level tool," benefiting people like graphic designers and art directors. We agree that, hopefully, a few of the new features (such as Full Screen mode and the Loupe) will show up in the next version of iPhoto.
