According to IDC, 20% more digital cameras were sold in the first half of 2005 than in the first six months of 2004. About 9.7 million units were shipped through June of this year. Kodak was the top brand, with a 22.1% market share, followed by Canon (20.6% market share) and Sony (18.3% market share). After that, numbers drop off sharply.
Growth, however, is down. Last year, digital camera sales had grown by 50%. Forecasters at IDC are predicting a 16% growth in the market this year.
