Pentax has announced the new *ist DS2 digital SLR camera, a 6.1 megapixel digital camera with a 2.5 inch extra-bright viewfinder. The camera features a 16-segment metering system and the SAFOX VIII AF system with aa AF sensors. The camera can record up to eight consecutive JPEG images at a speed of about 2.8 frames per second. The *ist DS2 will use SD cards and has a two power source option, giving the user a choice between 2 CR-V3 lithium batteries or 4 AA-size batteries. The camera has 19 user-programmable custom functions, RAW file output, 4 digital filters, and is PictBridge compatible. No word yet on pricing or availability.
