Microsoft, in cooperation with Adobe, Canon, Fujifilm, and Nikon, has announced Windows enhancements that will allow consumers to easily work with RAW files in all current and future Windows versions. Microsoft has also announced their intention to provide for native RAW support in the next Windows version, codenamed "Longhorn."
Windows XP users will soon be able to preview and print thumbnails from Nikon and Canon RAW files from within the Windows XP Explorer. The same features, along with the ability to organize and edit the Canon and Nikon files, will be available in a future version of Digital Image Suite. Free downloads will be available soon.
Finally, Microsoft has announced development of a certification program for third-party RAW image codecs that will ensure a consistent experience for users.
