nikkeichart.jpgPanasonic has announced its intention to release a digital SLR camera in 2006 that will be compatible with the four thirds system with interchangable lenses. In January, the company announced a development agreement with Olympus to support the four thirds system.

The chart at right (click for a larger version) shows that 60% of the digital SLR market in Japan is ruled by Nikon and Canon. A big reason for this is users who want to use lenses from their film SLR cameras. Matsushita (the parent company of Panasonic) hopes that a flagship DSLR will challenge these market leaders.
