nikon.gifNikon has offered a "clarification" on its encryption of white balance data in its raw files from its high-end D2X digital SLR camera. Nikon states that the NEF format is proprietary and that it offers "authorized developers" the chance to work with the functionality through the Software Developer Kit. The kit is free to developers who pass muster through an application with Nikon. In the meantime, Nikon Capture software, plug-ins for Adobe Photoshop, Nikon PictureProject software, and Nikon View software are Nikon's "choices for opening and processing NEF files."
