According to an IDC report released yesterday, the digital camera industry has matured too fast and growth rates will slow. Overall, digital cameras will not replace film cameras as the primary method of taking pictures. The research firm says the market will continue to be watered down with all kinds of devices that also take pictures, like camera phones and other devices.
Chris Chute, a digital imaging analysis with IDC, says that "digital cameras won't become as ubiquitous as film because manufacturers became obsessed with features instead of the unmet market. They were rewarded with market growth, but once they filled that bucket there wasn't any other bucket to fill."
