V70.jpgSamsung has announced the US release of the Digimax V70, a 7 MP camera featuring MPEG-4 video compression, a 4cm macro feature, and a 2-inch swivel LCD. The camera has a 3x optical and 5x digital zoom and features a Schneider 7.7mm-23.1mm f/2.7-4.9 lens. Samsung states that shutter lag is 1/2000 of a second.

The camera features a number of scene settings, including one called "Text:" Users can shoot documents such as books, magazines, or business cards while the camera automatically compensates for image distortion that typically occurs when photos of flat objects are taken. With the bundled, text recognition software (Digimax Reader), users can extract the text from images taken in Text mode and save them as editable documents.
