A new consumer survey from InfoTrends/CAP Ventures reveals that 37% of digital camera owners who print photos said they tried a retail service in 2004. This includes photo kiosk sales, over-the-counter orders, and online ordering for in-store pickups. That percentage is up from 14% in 2003. 94% of users polled made at least some of their prints from home, up from 90% in 2003. The study also shows that many users create "throwaway" prints on plain paper.
The market still has lots of room to grow: only 13% of digital camera users who print say they use retail printing services most often. Meanwhile, 33% of those who plan to purchase a digicam in the next year expect to print primarily at retail.
