A5103Q-1.jpegCanon has announced the new PowerShot A510, a smaller 3.2 MP digital camera with a 4x optical zoom and SD Media. Canon claims the camera is 13% smaller and 10% lighter than its predecessor (the A75), but has a longer optical zoom (3.0x 35-140mm equivalent of 35mm). The new lens is all-glass with two aspherical elements in a seven-element formula.

The camera can take up to 300 shots (with the LCD screen on) and uses just two AA batteries. The camera is equipped with a nine-point autofocus and 13 shooting modes. Most of the modes are standard, but canon has included two new modes: "Night Snapshot" and "Kids & Pets." The camera also can record movies (with sound) of up to 3 minutes in length.

The PictBridge-compatible camera has a variety of optional accessories, including wide-angle, telephoto, and close-up lenses. A waterproof case is also available for taking the camera in up to 130 feet of water. The camera will be available by the end of the month for an estimated street price of $199.99.
