According to a just-released InfoTrends/CAP Ventures study, worldwide digital camera revenue will hit about $24 billion this year, and grow to $31 billion in 2009. Europe, the United States, and Japan are leading the way, but the market is growing quickly in the Asia and "Rest Of World" regions.
The study shows that sensor resolution (megapixels) tends to be the biggest metric by which digital cameras are compared, while the biggest complaint is the sutter lag and processing speed.
The top five manufacturers are (in order): Canon, Sony, Olympus, Kodak and Fujifilm. Although the top five will probably stay the top five next year, they may shift within the rankings.
