Already one fo the few companies to use its own chips in its products, Sony is making a $576 million commitment to increase production of chips that go into liquid crystal displays and digital cameras. Factories in Southern Japan will benefit from this investment, which Sony hopes will revive its electronics business by making its products more competitive.
