Sam Diaz of the Detroit Free Press offers some advice for those looking to make the jump from film cameras to digital. He recommends getting at least a 3 MP camera to provide more flexibility in what you can do with the images (cropping, enlarging, etc.), buying a larger memory card to store more pictures, and staying away from the sub-$150 "toys" that are offered by unfamiliar companies. If you don't want to do a lot of research, he says, minimize your chances of buying a dud by sticking with the name brands: Canon, Kodak, Nikon, Olympus and Sony.
